Since 1995, the Museo Diocesano e Gallerie del Tiepolo has been located in the historic Patriarchal Palace, now Archbishop's Palace, one of the most beautiful and important palaces in the city of Udine. The Diocesan Museum is the place where you can admire the most extraordinary painting achievements that Giambattista Tiepolo gifted to the city of Udine. As a culmination of the complex architectural redevelopment of the Palace, carried out by the architect Domenico Rossi, Patriarch Dionisio Dolfin commissioned Tiepolo to decorate the ceiling of the main staircase. With this fresco depicting the Fall of the Rebel Angels (1726), a collaboration between Tiepolo and the Dolfin family began, continuing in the following years with the decoration of the Guest Gallery and the Red Room, an important place used as an ecclesiastical tribunal.
