The Udine Museum of Photography is located in the historic center of the city and is set up on the third floor of the Castle. The Museum was born in 2001 and was completely renovated in 2019. The Museum is responsible for enhancing and promoting the documents, prints and photographs that are part of the collection. Of great value is the Photo Library which offers a variety of videos, multimedia and images, recovering the role of historical photography as a work of art to tell “stories in images”. The itinerary is divided into seven thematic rooms and a room dedicated to temporary exhibitions. Today, for its richness and completeness, it is an essential point of reference for historians and scholars and a “mine” from which to draw for exhibitions and insights: it is made up of over 200,000 negatives and positives of various formats. The itinerary traces the history of local and international photographers through the evolution of techniques in the vast photographic panorama. The collection houses some portraits of the photographers present in the Photo Library: Luigi Pignat, Silvio Maria Bujatti and Augusto Agricola. Giuseppe Malignani was among the first in Udine to dedicate himself to portrait in the studio, passing from the profession of painter to that of photographer and his are many of the visiting cards on display.
