The Church of San Francesco is located in the historic center of Udine and today is one of the main cultural exhibition venues. The Franciscan church was consecrated by the patriarch Gregorio di Montelongo in 1266 and has splendid frescoes inside. On the right wall of the central apse you can admire the Lignum vitae which is a large tree with long branches arranged in a fan shape with the crucified Christ in the center. According to recent studies, the fresco has been dated to the first decade of the fourteenth century in a particular Venetian style - Byzantine and grotesque - Paduan. The Church is no longer used for the public and today is home to temporary exhibitions and cultural events.
