The show

On 17 March the third season of Verso opens with the collective exhibition "Something in the air" curated by Irene Calderoni and Bernardo Follini, the last chapter of a series of three exhibitions that have reflected on the power of language with "Burning Speech", to collective memory with "Memory Matters", to invisibility and hidden alliances with "Safe House".

"Something in the air" explores the re-appropriation of public space by looking at the collective dynamics and themes of political ecology. The exhibition project focuses on air, a material around and through which important contradictions and conflicts are expressed today. The title suggests an ambivalent perspective, on the one hand it refers to the potential of an emancipatory collective action, on the other it proposes an in-depth analysis of an element which, due to its transparency and imperceptibility, is often considered neutral and non-political. Through the work of thirteen artists "Something in the air" interrogates the scenarios of transgenerational political claim relating to the climate emergency.

The works of Carolina Caycedo, Andreas Gursky and Artur Zmijewski analyze, deconstruct, claim the choreography of the protest in the public space. Eclectic Electric Collective / Tools for Action and Alberto Tadiello use air to design offensive and defensive technologies, tools capable of dispersing or gathering bodies. Rory Pilgrim and Sara Leghissa cross the collective life of the new generations and their commitment to a political and ecological perspective, encountering a community but also intimate space to question themselves and their identities. Marwa Arsanios, Natascha Sadr Haghighian and Ghita Skali focus on the interconnection between economy and processes of cultural and material exploitation and extractivism, observing environmental changes as a direct consequence of power dynamics between human beings, and between human and non-human.

The works of Arthur Jafa, Sandra Mujinga and Muna Mussie, formerly part of the second chapter of Verso in the "Safe House" exhibition, allow a discursive continuity with respect to the themes of opacity, invisibility and the unspoken, which even in the context of “Something in the air” represent effective strategies for reading political dynamics in action.Towards. Young people between culture, technology and political participation is a project of the Piedmont Region - Department of Youth Policies and Sandretto Re Rebaudengo Foundation, as part of the National Fund for youth policies. An artistic and educational program that through exhibitions, workshops, laboratory visits and public programs is proposed as a platform to face the autonomy and fulfillment of the younger generations, their participation in social and political life, the prevention of "new addictions" .
