The exhibition, promoted and organized by CRAC Puglia and the Oscar Piattella Archive of Cantiano (www.archiviopiattella.it), collects a selected corpus of works created in the five-year period 2009-2013, with the addition of an unpublished self-portrait from 1949.
These works reveal a production of great chromatic and perceptive impact, perfectly in line with that "geometric phrasing" that incessantly marks the entire production of this inexhaustible master from Marche.
In this continuous research, always balancing between coherence and recognizability on one side and the need not to remain still, to continue exploring on the other, Piattella has traced further elements of horizon. This is made particularly precise and punctual by a writing by Massimo Cacciari in 2010, when he notes: "It is evident in which groove of contemporary 'painterly thought' the work of Oscar Piattella is placed. It is the groove of the 'spiritual in art'. Art does not represent or re-present, but it is expression; it is not a transfiguration of the world, that is, a 'figuring it' differently, but the creation of a world, a world in itself. The titles of Piattella's compositions express this idea with 'luminous' awareness: what appears is nothing but the shattering of the inner Light; the colors are nothing but the stamp that the Light takes on illuminating the 'landscape of the soul'."
Piattella's production is largely characterized by a vivid expression of inner Light, with strong, contrasting color combinations, reminiscent of certain ancient Venetian painting. The works presented in Taranto are able to unfold a pictorial language in which the "phrasing of geometry" is powerful.
