The Vaccheria

La Vaccheria is a historic farmhouse, an extraordinary space with a total surface area of almost 1,800 square metres, renovated as part of the Eur – Castellaccio urban planning program and thanks to the related program agreement, as compensation for two important areas from an environmental, naturalistic and archaeological: the Pratone delle Valli and the Volusia Park.

Due to this urban planning program, the Castellaccio farmhouse was sold to Rome Capital, completely renovated and transformed into a cultural space intended to host the archaeological finds recovered in the southern Rome area, managed by the Rome IX Municipality. Thanks to the renovation and set-up works, worth over 3 million 175 thousand euros, the Vaccheria today is a space composed of a central body, once occupied by the stables, of approximately 1,590 square meters of net surface area with glass display cases and common areas such as the conference room, the refreshment area and the bookshop; from a two-storey building of approximately 490 square meters of net surface area intended for offices and management; and an additional body with laboratories and related services (approximately 260 square meters of net surface area).

La Vaccheria was opened to the public with the exhibition Flesh: Warhol & The Cow. Andy Warhol's works at the Vaccheria. The exhibition, curated by Giuliano Gasparotti and Francesco Mazzei and open to visitors for free until 30 October, reproduces a significant cross-section of the artist's production with 80 works on display: from Cows to Campbell Jars, from Liza Minelli to Marilyn, to record covers and magazines.
