From 29 April to 12 June 2022 the awaited appointment with EUROPEAN PHOTOGRAPHY returns in Reggio Emilia , an international photography festival promoted and produced by the Palazzo Magnani Foundation together with the Municipality of Reggio Emilia and with the contribution of the Emilia-Romagna Region.

The shots presented by the Czech photographer Jitka Hanzlovà were commissioned by Fotografia Europea which has always considered it essential to commission new productions that interpret the concept of the edition with the aim of giving the festival an experimental and research cut every time, thus offering the possibility to involved artists, to provide innovative reflections and stimuli on contemporary issues.

The purpose of the project entrusted to Hanzlovà is to tell, starting from Camus' maxim, how the resilience forces and the inner forces of adolescents are today particularly stressed by the social implications that the health situation has imposed on them for two years now. In this context, the photographer tries to find out what it means to be young in Reggio Emilia, observing that age in which one is more open to change, an age of transition that has certainly suffered from the impediments due to Covid and which is recovering its space in very different ways. In particular, attention is poured into that line of shadow that are the second generations, between the ages of 11 and 15, who often find an outlet and a voice in music, video and images. The children thus try to affirm their identity, with a great strength of the ego, a feeling of revenge, of self-determination, as individuals within a society in strong change.
