From 10 October to 18 January 2026
At the invitation of the National Gallery of Umbria, Mimmo Paladino intervened on a series of golden panels to elaborate a contemporary version of the Guidalotti Polyptych by Beato Angelico (1447-1449). The work is currently on display at Palazzo Strozzi in Florence without the frame, which was only created in 1915. In the central panels, Angelico paints a sacred conversation between the Virgin Mary, the Child, and Saints, reinterpreted by Paladino through his style, with material inserts. The contemporary predella opens the view to landscapes alluding to the Perugian panoramas, while the images of the saints on the two sides have become enigmatic presences, for which Paladino drew from his rich repertoire of body, nature, and geometry. The work, a mixed technique on panel, specially created for the National Gallery of Umbria, will be visible from October 10, 2025.
It is a preview of the tribute that Umbria will pay to the Master, one of the most well-known and appreciated figures of contemporary art internationally, and that Paladino will pay to Umbria, its traditions, and its extraordinary landscapes, also thanks to the Christmas Lights on Corso Vannucci, a result of the collaboration between the National Museums of Perugia - Regional Directorate of National Museums Umbria, the Superintendence of Archaeology Fine Arts and Landscape of Umbria, the Municipality of Perugia, and the Perugia Foundation.
From November 8, 2025, to January 18, 2026, three of the most prestigious museum venues in the Umbrian national circuit, the National Gallery of Umbria in Perugia, the Rocca Albornoz in Spoleto, and Palazzo Ducale in Gubbio will host a comprehensive exhibition of Mimmo Paladino, curated by Costantino D'Orazio, Director of the National Museums of Perugia, and Aurora Roscini Vitali, art historian of the National Gallery of Umbria, in collaboration with the artist himself.
The exhibition at the National Gallery of Umbria will document, through a nucleus of over 40 works from Italian and foreign public museums and important private collections, the entire activity of the Campanian author, from the experiments of the seventies, through the return to figuration in the eighties, to the most recent sculptural and pictorial production, recounting all the main themes addressed over fifty years of activity, with a particular focus on large-format works and painting that invades space.
