The National Museum of Oslo (Nasjonalmuseet) is the largest art museum in the Nordic countries, inaugurated in its new location in 2022. Located in the heart of the Norwegian capital, the museum houses an extraordinary collection of over 400,000 works, ranging from classical art to contemporary art, from architecture to design.
Among the most famous treasures are the works of the painter Edvard Munch, including one of the iconic examples of "The Scream", along with masterpieces by international artists such as Pablo Picasso, Claude Monet, and Vincent van Gogh. Ample space is dedicated to Norwegian art, with paintings, sculptures, and designs that tell the cultural history of the country from the Middle Ages to the present day.
The museum also stands out for its modern and eco-friendly building, designed by the Kleihues + Schuwerk studio, characterized by bright exhibition spaces and the Light Hall, a spectacular area dedicated to major temporary exhibitions.
In addition to the permanent exhibitions, the National Museum organizes events, conferences, guided tours, and educational activities for adults and children. With its central location, just a few steps from the port of Oslo, the museum is a must-visit for lovers of art and Nordic culture.
