The Made in Cloister Foundation presents the exhibition The Sun of the Future, the first chapter of a biennial program that, through a series of artistic practices and research initiatives, initiates a reflection on the idea of rebirth, prompted by imminent catastrophes and current poly-crises. The exhibition brings together international artists whose works navigate the delicate balance between creation and destruction, hope and catastrophe. The title of the exhibition, taken from an Italian partisan song, reinterprets the sun not as a symbol of a utopian promise, perpetually unfulfilled, but as an ambivalent force - generative of life, but also destructive. The exhibition explores the various possibilities of rebirth through material transformations, identity metamorphoses, and spatial reorganizations. The works on display tell the possibilities of regeneration in a post-utopian world. They investigate how matter, identity, and space can be reborn - whether through alchemical transmutation, para-fictitious paternity, or the reactivation of forgotten stories. The exhibition features works by mountaincutters, Alexandra Sukhareva, Clément Cogitore, Danh Vo, Hiwa K, Anastasia Ryabova, Renato Leotta, and Reena Spaulings, as well as new works commissioned to Olga Tsvetkova and Carmela De Falco. Created during her artistic residency at the Made in Cloister Foundation, Porta Capuana. Lo spazio come dubbio (2025) by Olga Tsvetkova is a site-specific dance performance that traces the emotional geography of the Porta Capuana neighborhood in Naples. Carmela De Falco, a Neapolitan artist, presents two new works: riflettendo, riflettendo, la voce, an installation activated by a performance that transforms the Cloister into a resonant body, thanks to the voices of the performers recalling the past of the space inhabited by monks, and Trasmissione, a sculptural work that evokes the history of the building as part of the wool mill. The historical environment of the Cloister of Santa Caterina a Formiello, ten years after its conversion, stands as a central figure in these explorations of rebirth. Once a cloister of a Renaissance church, later a wool mill, soap factory, garage, and even a carpentry workshop, the space itself embodies the idea of renewal, evoking a chorus of voices that underline its dual role as both figure and background in this narrative.
