The Morra Greco Foundation is pleased to announce Eternal, Returns, the first institutional solo exhibition of Cypriot artist Marina Xenofontos in Italy, which will take place from March 21 to May 24, 2025. Set up in the frescoed halls of the 18th century on the first floor of Palazzo Caracciolo di Avellino – the Foundation's headquarters – the exhibition features both older works and new productions, specifically created for the occasion.Eternal, Returns evokes the multiple layers – overlapped or hidden by architectural and decorative components – of the spaces of the Morra Greco Foundation, engaging them with tangible manifestations of concepts such as time, history, and memory. These themes resonate through a well-established poetics, rich in repetitions and ideological implications. Through a language that integrates light, movement, and matter, Marina Xenofontos explores the conceptual and physical experience of a boundless archive. The dialogue between the sumptuous decorations by Giacomo del Pò, celebrating the noble power of the Caracciolo and Carafa families, and Xenofontos' works – like Code of Construction (2024), a modular furniture system inspired by postcolonial Cypriot bedroom furnishings – stages a confrontation between the private and public codification of the personal sphere, alluding to family complexity as a form of industrialization.Through spatial interventions, Xenofontos removes vernacular objects from the domestic context to emphasize their historical, social, and ideological implications. These symbols and elements become condensed, living bodies full of multiple meanings, activating alternative readings compared to the traditional functions associated with spaces and objects. Thus, the artist investigates the marginalization of private stories by the "official" historical narrative and, conversely, how the social ends up reflecting in the individual.

Project co-financed with resources from the Strategic Culture and Tourism Plan 2024/2025 – Global Forum Contemporary Art Exhibitions EDI 2024 Project of the Campania Region. With the support of the Henry Moore Foundation and the Vice Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Cyprus.Under the patronage of the Embassy of Cyprus in Rome.
