Giuseppina Maurizi has dedicated over twenty years of her life to creating costumes and scenographies that not only embellish the stage, but also tell deep and meaningful stories. Her career, which has seen her collaborate with various artists and important institutions, is a fascinating journey into the world of creativity and transformation. Giuseppina's works are not simple costumes; they are true masks that reflect her desire to explore the identity and connection between body, mind, and spirit. Through her work, the artist has discovered that the act of sewing is a powerful tool for personal transformation. Every stitch, every seam, becomes a way to reassemble oneself, a silent act that leads to deep inner awareness. One of the most recurring sources of inspiration for Giuseppina is sashiko, an ancient type of Japanese embroidery mainly practiced during the Edo period. This embroidery, with apotropaic function, is an example of how the art of sewing can take on deep and spiritual meanings. Japanese mothers, by embroidering these stitches on the back of their children's kimonos, not only protected them but also created a cultural and symbolic bond. Giuseppina was fascinated by this tradition, recognizing in it the magical power of sewing, an act that becomes a talisman and a means of connection with the Sacred. In recent years, her research has focused on the idea of the garment as a place of experience and transformation. The seamless garment becomes a symbol of the completeness of the human being, a reflection of an inner journey that cannot be separated from the physical dimension. Giuseppina's creative investigation starts from the observation of how each garment envelops and accompanies the individual, representing not only the construction of identity but also the attempt to regain a sort of lost paradise. Each creation of Giuseppina is an invitation to reflect on the relationship between the human being and the garment they wear, in a continuous dialogue between nudity and covering, between the interior and the exterior. The garment thus becomes a container of experiences, a passage that allows exploring the duality of existence. Inspired by the Zen tradition, Giuseppina approaches the symbols contained in the garments of Buddhist monks - the kesa - where the concepts of care and non-attachment to earthly goods are at the basis of the creative process, which materializes in the transformation of simple rags or fabric scraps into a work of art full of meaning. Because, in this case, it is the form or the covering that shapes the substance enclosed in them. In a world where identity is often fragmented, the works of Giuseppina Maurizi remind us of the importance of reconnecting with ourselves through art and craftsmanship. Giuseppina Maurizi was born in Viterbo in 1973, attended the art high school and the Academy of Fine Arts. Since 1995, she has been involved in costumes and scenographies for theater, video, and advertising, collaborating with artists, productions, and national and international events.
