The show

One language is never enough ”: this is the translation of the title - an old Scottish proverb - chosen by Anna Giuntini for her solo show at Manifiesto Blanco on the occasion of Milan Photofestival 17th , the great Milanese exhibition of auteur photography. Communication and its mechanisms are at the center of this exhibition, and the photographic image processed manually and digitally becomes a vector of different languages but inherent to the same theme.

In the first part of this exhibition - Displays and Powerlines - Anna intends to propose a reflection on communication and its possible gaps which, even in this age of perennial connection, often characterize interpersonal relationships, through messages that are lost or arrive crippled. This theme is analyzed through a section of 10 photographic-based collages with images of pylons, light poles and skeletons of maxi billboards, in which “recovery” elements are stratified linked to the exchange of words: texts, indications and shipping addresses. A tangle of golden threads - which intends on the one hand to evoke the multitude of broken cables and pylons, no longer functioning, that haunt anthropized places around the world and on the other hand to recall the importance and richness of the message - connect the works exposed on two opposite walls.

The second section of the exhibition presents a series of painful and evocative images whose purpose is to visually represent that feeling generally known as " African sickness ". Maldafrica consists of a sort of Carnet de Voyage that recalls the artist's explorations in South Africa starting from 6 small preparatory works - made up of notes, memories, objects, chromatic suggestions and paper materials - which constitute the first elaborations from which 12 landscapes are born in which colors fade and outlines blend thanks to the digital overlay of papers, paints and incomplete edges.
