From 5 April to 16 April 2023
The Regional Directorate of Basilicata Museums and the "Massimo Pallottino" National Archaeological Museum of Melfi , in collaboration with the Municipality of Melfi and the Melfi Archeoclub, present the photographic exhibition Passio. The rites of Holy Week in Basilicata .
The inauguration will be held at the "Massimo Pallottino" National Archaeological Museum in Melfi on Wednesday 05 April 2023 at 18:00 . Participation is free .
The exhibition, which can be visited from 5 to 16 April 2023, is a unique opportunity to immerse yourself, through the lens of the camera, in the culture and rites of Holy Week of Easter in Basilicata. The traditions and rituals are narrated through the contemporary documentary photography of Vincenzo Fundone, a photographer by passion and then by profession for over thirty years, who through his travels in Basilicata has immortalized in some masterful shots the rich and multifaceted and at the same time fragile and ephemeral, of religious festivals in Lucania.
It consists of fourteen shots that fix some salient, spiritual and archaic moments of the Easter rites connected to the Passio Christi in the villages of the Vulture-Melfese area and in some places in Basilicata where they are still deeply rooted and lived with profound mysticism. The images on display tell the phenomenology of the rites of Holy Week with the intention of sharing the beauty of a land often unknown to its own inhabitants, of reawakening interest in a culture with very ancient roots, but vital both for the scholar and for the casual traveller.
