The Museum of Contemporary Art – MAC/CCB (Museu de Arte Contemporânea no Centro Cultural de Belém) opened on October 27, 2023, transforming the former Berardo Collection Museum into a center of excellence for modern and contemporary art in Portugal. Located in Belém, along the banks of the Tagus River, the museum houses four important collections: the Berardo Collection, the State Contemporary Art Collection (CACE), the Teixeira de Freitas Collection, and the Holma/Ellipse Collection, showcasing over 900 works by more than 500 artists. Prominent artists on display include Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dalí, Marcel Duchamp, Piet Mondrian, Andy Warhol, Louise Bourgeois, Nan Goldin, Joana Vasconcelos, Helena Almeida, and Donald Judd, offering a comprehensive overview of the major movements of the 20th century and global contemporary art. Visiting the MAC/CCB means immersing oneself in a dynamic cultural experience: iconic art, contemporary reflections, architectural and performative projects in an urban and historically emblematic context of Lisbon.
