The MAAT - Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology, located in the Belém district in Lisbon, is a modern cultural institution that intertwines contemporary art, architecture, and technological innovation. It stands on the banks of the Tagus River, between the historic Central Tejo and the new building designed by Amanda Levete Architects, both immersed in an urban and riverside landscape that stimulates the dialogue between past and future.
The structure includes approximately 3,000 m² of exhibition spaces: the Main Gallery, the Oval Gallery, the Video Room, and the Project Room. The Central Tejo hosts the permanent exhibition The Electricity Factory, dedicated to industrial heritage and energy.
The museum hosts international temporary exhibitions, curating multidisciplinary projects with contemporary artists, architects, and thinkers, often enhancing the art collection of the EDP Foundation.
Architecturally, the new building stands out for its curved facade covered with over 14,936 three-dimensional ceramic tiles, playing with light, water, and reflections, creating a continuous tactile and visual dialogue . The rooftop plaza is accessible and offers panoramic views of the Tagus River and the city, becoming a public space and a point of urban contemplation.
Visiting it means immersing yourself in an environment where sculptural architecture, critical dialogue, and technology come together, in an ideal setting for those seeking contemporary cultural experiences in Lisbon.
