On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Lisetta Carmi's birth, Palazzo Ducale presents a major exhibition of the Genoese artist and photographer, who throughout her life had the courage to explore different paths, always giving voice to the marginalized. A journey that starts from Genoa and Italy to narrate distant realities and transforming worlds through her sharp and clear gaze, with unpublished color images alongside her most famous black and white series.
The exhibition features images from the series of transvestites from the 1960s, published in 1972 causing a stir and influencing the photographic research of many international artists, not only in black and white but also in color, and the unpublished series on eroticism and authoritarianism at Staglieno, where the famous Genoese cemetery is transformed under the photographer's lens into a portrait of the bourgeois society of the nineteenth century and the eroticism associated with funerary monuments. Genoa emerges in its unexpected facets, with the narrative of the world of work in the famous images of Genoa - port and Italsider, but also those, partly unpublished, of the Registry Office and aspects of the city's cultural and social life.
