Sixteen years after the last exhibition, the Pinacoteca inaugurates the new exhibition path dedicated to Michele de Napoli, highlighting several unpublished works of the painter, chosen following a survey of all the works stored in the deposits. The reorganization project, curated by Dr. Daniela Confetti and Dr. Francesco De Nicolo, guides visitors on a journey through over sixty years of artistic activity, told through 107 works selected from the artist's precious testamentary legacy.

Paintings, cartoons, and drawings retrace the fundamental stages of his training, from his years at the Real Istituto di Belle Arti in Naples, where his talent and temperament earned him the nickname "Lion of the Academy," to his decisive Roman stay, crucial for the deepening of religious painting through the study of the great masters of the Cinquecento and Seicento.

The exhibition path showcases the richness of a production that documents major civil and ecclesiastical commissions through preparatory studies for altarpieces, frescoes, and curtains destined for important cities in the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies and Apulia.

Among the novelties is a room entirely dedicated to portraits of family members and personalities of the time, which testify to Michele de Napoli's extraordinary ability to capture not only the physiognomy but also the psychological dimension of his subjects.

The new exhibition also tells the deep and indissoluble bond of the artist with his hometown. Painter, mayor, and protagonist of the cultural and civil life of Terlizzi, Michele de Napoli contributed significantly to defining its artistic and monumental identity, becoming an authentic Genius loci.

For this reason, two projects for the Triumphal Chariot are included in the exhibition path for the first time.

Driven by the belief that art was a tool for moral growth and education, the master wanted to entrust his artistic heritage to future generations through an act of extraordinary generosity: the testamentary bequest with which he donated his works and his palace to the City of Terlizzi, so that they would become a shared heritage and a study tool.

Therefore, in agreement with the civic administration, the visit to the permanent exhibition remains free and open with openings also on weekends (from Friday to Sunday with opening until 9 pm for the month of August), while the provision of services offers the possibility of guided tours and educational activities for families accompanied by qualified personnel.
