Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt is an important exhibition space in Frankfurt. Inaugurated in 1986, the Schirn does not have its own collection, but organizes temporary and thematic exhibitions or exhibitions relating to individual artists. The building in which Schirn is based is located in the historic center of Frankfurt and offers a total of 2000 square meters of exhibition space. Since its opening, the Schirn has hosted large temporary exhibitions relating to the most diverse themes, such as the artistic currents of Viennese Art Nouveau, Expressionism, Dadaism and Surrealism, German pop art, the history of photography and sound art, but also thematic exhibitions, with diversified themes such as shopping, art and consumption. Important monographic exhibitions were then held on artists such as Kandinsky, Giacometti, Matisse, Schnabel, Ensor, James Lee Byars, Yves Klein, Peter Doig, Lászlo Moholy-Nagy, Georges Seurat, Jeff Koons, Edvard Munch, Théodore Géricault and Helene Schjerfbeck.
