Busoni House Museum

Founded in the 1960s by the Municipality of Empoli, the museum collects rare manuscripts, original booklets, autograph letters, period photos and other documents of great historical and musical interest linked to the figure of the pianist and composer Ferruccio Busoni and is home to the homonymous Music Studies Center. Among the objects most closely connected with the artistic production and with the biography of Ferruccio Busoni, we find the manuscript for voice and piano dating back to 1907 of Busoni's first opera "Die Brautwahl", the original libretto, in a limited edition of the work, illustrated with sketches and figures by Karl Walzer (first set designer and costume designer of the opera), the manuscript of a composition for piano for 4 hands, "Finnländische Volksweisen", and still numerous letters, today precious testimony of the interlaced relationships between Busoni and his friend Emilio Anzoletti and with the musician Felice Boghen. Over 100 period photos of Ferruccio Busoni and his family, period programs of his concerts and articles in Italian and foreign newspapers concerning him, instead tell the time in which Ferruccio lived and how his music was received . In the exhibition rooms, you can also see a marble bust of the musician by the sculptor Antonini and a vintage piano on which Busoni played during his stays in Empoli.
