The Museum of Prehistory is a multifunctional structure built near the archaeological area Le Paludi ; inside it houses exhibition spaces for temporary exhibitions, restoration and anthropology laboratories, a conference room and anti-seismic deposits.
The collection ranges from the Bronze Age to the Roman era and illustrates the history of the Marsica starting from the first pile-dwelling villages. Archaeological excavations at Le Paludi, carried out from 1985 to 1998, have brought to light a settlement of the third millennium BC, on the shores of the ancient Fucino lake.
Of particular importance are the bases of the wooden poles of the huts and the tumulus tombs of the Late Bronze Age, which preserve the remains of the deceased in a hollowed tree trunk section.
