Landscape Museum

The Landscape Museum of Castelnuovo Berardenga has been housed since 1999 in a late nineteenth century building used until a few decades ago as a public slaughterhouse. Made in the heart of one of the most typical Sienese and Italian landscapes at the extreme southern reaches of Chianti and near the Crete Senesi, it is a unique museum of its kind.

The communicative form was totally renewed and inaugurated on October 3, 2020. The exhibition, accessible to different audiences, offers a series of interactive multimedia applications derived from everyday objects - a window, a table, a cupboard, binoculars - which illustrate and accompany the visitor to discover closely the economic and anthropic aspects of the landscape, the history of agricultural landscapes and the Mezzadria, the peasant struggles, the changes in the methods of agricultural cultivation, breeding and nutrition that have influenced the conformation of the territory and the styles of consumption.

Furthermore, the Landscape Museum is equipped with mobile devices to deepen the relationship between landscape, art, architecture and literature and also has an olfactory station, an educational section and a space where it is possible to taste local wines with a view to knowledge and promotion. of the territory. The visit is completed by the consultation area dedicated to the Archivio della Memoria, which collects testimonies and documents on the history and development of the Chianti landscape, and by a large space on the first floor for temporary exhibitions.
