The MMMAC Museum of Minimal Materials of Contemporary Art was founded in Paestum in 1993 by Pietro Lista. The museum inherits the experience of the Taide gallery, an active player in the artistic and cultural debate in Salerno during the Seventies and Eighties.

The purpose of MMMAC is to promote contemporary art through exhibitions, meetings, publications, starting from the territory of Paestum where there are historical and archaeological values related to its temples, the layers of ancient buildings, and the landscape. Paestum as a source of inspiration for artists, contemporary art as a new cultural attraction.

MMMAC is mainly focused on collecting minimal materials, such as sketches, drafts, small preliminary drawings, defined by Gillo Dorfles as the only authentic basis of all our subsequent creations, the most intimate part of the artist's creative action.

The current location of the museum is in the heart of Paestum, a few steps from the archaeological site, in a rural building that was already constructed around the mid-1700s and reproduced in one of the most famous paintings by Antonio Joli from 1759.
