MMMAC - Museum of Minimal Materials of Contemporary Art

The MMMAC Museo Materiali Minimi d'Arte Contemporanea was founded in Paestum in 1993 on the initiative of Pietro Lista. The museum inherits the experience of the Taide gallery, an animator of the artistic-cultural debate in Salerno in the seventies and eighties.

The aim of the MMMAC is to disseminate contemporary art through exhibitions, meetings and publications, starting from the territory of Paestum where there are historical-archaeological values relating to its temples, the stratifications of ancient buildings and the landscape. Paestum as a source of inspiration for artists, contemporary art as a new cultural attraction.

The MMMAC mainly deals with the collection of minimal materials, i.e. sketches, small pre-defined drawings, defined by Gillo Dorfles as "the only authentic basis of all our subsequent creations", the most intimate part of the artist's creative action.

The current headquarters of the museum is located in the heart of Paestum, a few steps from the archaeological site, it is a rural building that was already built in the mid-1700s and reproduced in one of the most famous paintings by Antonio Joli of 1759.
