Museion, together with five partner institutions in Southeast Asia, is part of the selection committee of the Han Nefkens Foundation – Southeast Asian Video Art Production Grant, an initiative launched by private collector Han Nefkens to increase contemporary artistic production in the field of video art. The committee annually provides a Southeast Asian artist with $15,000 to fund the production of a new video work, which will be screened at all partner institutions.

In 2024, the winning video The Disoriented Garden... A Breath of Dream by Truong Cong Tung is screened at Museion -1 and donated to the museum's collection. This acquisition, resulting from a public-private partnership, expands the video art section and strengthens the international artistic dialogue with the Southeast Asian territory, emphasizing the importance of video storytelling for the Museion collection.

This year's winner, Truong Cong Tung, was born in 1986 in Dak Lak and grew up in an ethnic minority at the border between Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia. After studying lacquer painting, he developed a style that uses a wide range of media. As the first recipient of the scholarship, in his video The Disoriented Garden… A Breath of Dream, Tung abstractly portrays the Central Highlands of Vietnam; the video is inspired by the idea of an ancient wild garden as fertile ground for the coexistence of stories, time periods, human and non-human entities, each imprinted in this fictitious space that is an abstract representation of the country.

Visitors can approach the individual video work or the overall installation from different perspectives: anthropological, poetic, historical, ecological, or dreamlike. Light spots in the video (spirits? Our consciousness? A camera defect?), insects, forest sounds, grass, animals, and plants are all interlocutors in the epic narrative of a distant land.
