Permanenten, now known as KODE 1, is a monumental venue of the KODE Museums of Art, Design and Music in the heart of Bergen. Located at Nordahl Bruns gate 9, it is housed in an elegant neo-Renaissance building built in 1896 by the architect Henry Bucher and finished with authentic carved stone and symbolic reliefs by Ambrosia Tønnesen depicting J.C. Dahl.
The museum specializes in decorative arts: silver, glass, porcelain, historic furniture, textiles, and craft objects typical of the western area of Norway, along with a remarkable Chinese collection donated by Johan Wilhelm Normann Munthe. Although currently partially closed for renovations, it hosts temporary exhibitions such as Harriet Backer – Every Atom is Colour and Nordmandsdalen.
