Located in the heart of Avignon, the Musée du Petit Palais is a gem of medieval and Renaissance art. Housed in the ancient Palais des Archevêques, the museum is known for its extraordinary collection of paintings and sculptures spanning from the 13th to the 16th century. Inaugurated in 1976, it is recognized as one of the main European museums of medieval and Renaissance art.
The museum boasts one of the most important collections of Italian primitives, with over 300 paintings from the Campana collection, including works by masters such as Sandro Botticelli and Vittore Carpaccio. These works offer a unique insight into Italian sacred painting of the time.
Alongside the Italian collection, the museum also houses a rich selection of Provencal paintings and sculptures, representative of the Avignon school, which testify to the artistic evolution of the region during the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.
