The watercolor depicts a large group of people, many of whom wear the classic Breton costume, which in the initial intention should have represented the indigenous population during one of Pont-Aven's summer religious festivities. The depth is suggested only by the progressive reduction of the size of the figures. The sharp and marked outlines are taken from the original model by Emile Bernard.

The painting that portrays the artist's eldest daughter running on the balcony of the Balla house has a long elaboration starting from the summer of 1912. The sensation of movement is rendered thanks to the sequence of the child's steps, the repetition of the figure according to a precise rhythm determines its movement from left to right. The chunky brushstroke allows the artist not to insist with the contour line, but the composition of the figure is accomplished only with the interlocking of different colored pieces.

The work was performed to advertise the shows of the homonymous café concert in rue de Martyrs, in the Parisian district of Montmartre. In this poster Lautrec depicts the famous can-can dancer Jane Avril in the center. The artist was certainly inspired by Japanese prints but also by contemporary photographic experiences, making use of a particular compositional cut.
