Signed and dated 1934, the canvas is part of a group of thematically related compositions by Campigli, depicting women on the beach. Here numerous powerfully stylized female figures - disquieting and fascinating idols at the same time - facing the sea and covered in long white tunics, are distributed in various postures on the expanse of sand in groups of four, twos or singly, perhaps waiting for the sailors. .
