From the mid-sixties the work of Giovanni Anselmo has ceased to be a representation of something within the finite limits of the canvas, whether it be a drawing or a painting. The artist no longer delivers his work to the public, as if it were definitively coming out of himself, he abandons the canvas as a place for pictorial representation and transforms it into a continuous experience, communicating the sense of action in the time of the work. Anselmo makes full use of the canvas and its frame. The colors, that is the stone, operate both in a chromatic sense on the surface and really on it. The stones seem to be placed by chance astride the canvas, while they act and keep themselves in balance clinging to the frame through a loop made with the steel cable, consuming the frame itself moment by moment. In this way a situation of energy is determined, similarly to what happens in the works with the magnetic needle: purely physical in this case, but always projected towards infinity, the one suggested by the white painted canvas, sum of all colors, no longer place of a representation but of all possible representations.
