Black velvet cape with polychrome needlepoint embroidery, a technique that combines the painted parts with the embroidered ones. Also called needle portraiture, it is part of the larger sector of needle painting and was highly appreciated since the 17th century for its speed of execution and the splendid final effect. It became the favorite hobby of the ladies of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
