From 21 June to 19 October 2025
The exhibition, which will be open to the public until October 19, 2025, is curated by Helena Alonso, J. Óscar Carrascosa, and Daria Jorioz and explores the profound influence of family origins and traditions on the work of Pablo Ruiz Picasso (Malaga, Spain, 1881 - Mougins, France, 1973), as well as the legacy of classical cultures, particularly the Phoenician, Roman, and Arab cultures that the artist had encountered during his childhood in Malaga, on the shores of the Mediterranean.
The exhibition "The Other Picasso. Return to the Origins" hosted in Aosta has obtained the sponsorship of the Embassy of Spain in Rome. The project offers the public a fascinating journey that aims to reconstruct Picasso's creative story through the existing connections between childhood experiences, the constant dialogue with the past, and the innovative use of traditional techniques such as ceramics, engraving, and scenic design.
Insights related to poetry, reflections on the relationship with his contemporary photographers, and on the reception of his work in Italy in the 1950s contribute to creating a unique narrative that intertwines history, art, and memory, revealing an intimate Picasso, an artist not only innovative and brilliant, living in a continuous search, but also deeply aware of his own origins.
