The Musa hosts the collection of the Cultural Department of the City of Vienna and presents contemporary Austrian art with free admission.
The collection, which includes about 50,000 works by approximately 5,000 artists, offers a glimpse of Austrian artistic production spanning all artistic genres from 1945 to the present day. As the successor of the "Museum auf Abruf," since 2007 the Musa has been successfully dedicated to Viennese contemporary art.
The Musa has one of the largest collections of contemporary Austrian art. All forms of art are represented: painting, graphics, sculpture, photography, film, video, installation, "art on buildings" (mosaic, sgraffito, fresco). Following the principle of maximum stylistic breadth possible with the highest possible quality, a high-level jury recommends Viennese artists or Vienna-related artworks for acquisition. In addition to works by prominent artists, the collection also includes positions representing interesting side paths, unknown positions, or singular and short-lived phenomena in Austrian art.
