The exhibition Photographic Notes. Luigi Ferrigno's Venice curated by Lorenza Bravetta at the Querini Stampalia Foundation in Venice (from 17 December 2023 to 1 April 2024) presents to the public for the first time an organic set of this photographer's activity, which spans the second half of the twentieth century and faces the new millennium.

Over the course of over fifty years, Luigi Ferrigno has observed and documented Venice, overcoming postcard stereotypes and restoring its uniqueness and multiple contradictions. An attentive gaze, capable of entering into the folds of everyday life, of dwelling on the passage of time and on the issues of an Italy divided, in the post-war years, between the euphoria of freedom and the difficulties of reconstruction. But also a discreet approach, which provides unexpected glimpses and never predictable points of view, fully placing Ferrigno in the wake of what is defined as humanist photography.

A tiptoeing story made up of snapshots which, like notes taken over the course of a lifetime, provide a precious treasure chest for rereading contemporary Venice. It is here that his life develops and intertwines - with his marriage, the birth of his daughter, his forty years of work in the glass factory - and his activity as an amateur photographer through temporal and stylistic phases that are reflected in as many sections on display These are the stories that should not be lost, fragments of a story necessary to restore a past on which our collective memory is based and without which it is not possible to imagine the future.
