For the photographic exhibition Amendola. Burri, Vedova, Nitsch: Actions and Gestures produced by the Emilio and Annabianca Vedova Foundation in collaboration with the Palazzo Albizzini Burri Collection Foundation, from May 4, 2024, the Vedova Space in Venice will host the shots of the great photographer from Pistoia, which tell the work of three absolute protagonists of art in the twentieth century. In over sixty years of career, Aurelio Amendola has passionately dedicated himself to portraits of artists in their studios; an intuition that has led him, in different times and places, to the realization of photographs dedicated to Alberto Burri, Emilio Vedova, and Hermann Nitsch that make up this exhibition, maturing the idea of a show on their actions and gestures. The relationship between Emilio Vedova and the photographer Aurelio Amendola is documented by the sequences dedicated to the artist and his work in the studio; a detail that creates a particular effect of time jump is that the exhibition space, with the white-painted exposed brick walls, is the same in which Vedova moved while Amendola was shooting. In Amendola's photos, Vedova's gestuality opens up in an infinite variety of interventions, in which furrows, incisions, overlaps, sketches, and clumps of matter maintain a constant pictorial tension. Just as only the photographer's light illuminates Burri while he performs combustion and stops the moment of Nitsch's actions with his disruptive will for the liberation of the body and spirit.
