From 4 May to 5 November 2023
The itinerary on the main floor is introduced by the work of Daniel Spoerri , exponent of Nouveau Réalisme and inventor of Eat Art (edible art), with his famous Faux tableaux-piège (false trap paintings). "Still lifes" of set tables, overturned and hung on the walls, with the remains of a meal, reused objects and "trapped" everyday objects, as in the Cafè Biasutti diptych (2007) exhibited here.
Followed by Piero Gilardi 's iconic Nature Carpets. Sculptures in expanded polyurethane, realistically colored, which reproduce lush pieces of nature, Fallen Fruit (1991) and Black Grapes and Peaches (2003), placed in the center of the large seventeenth-century reception rooms. A tribute to the recently deceased Turin artist and his activism and environmental commitment.
Immediately afterwards, in the small oval room overlooking the Gardens, the famous English artist Tony Cragg returns with the ceramic sculpture (Untitled, 1998), which has the appearance of an oversized teacup, crossed by dynamic black lines.
The route continues in the Antecamera dei Valletti on foot with a loan from the Castello di Rivoli Museum of Contemporary Art. In the center of the room, Il Bel Paese (1994) by Maurizio Cattelan , always ironic and irreverent. A large carpet represents the enlarged casing of the well-known cheese with the image of Italy, playing with the famous poetic quote by Dante and Petrarca.
