From 25 October to 26 April 2026
On the 25th of October 2025 at 3:00 PM, the temporary exhibition “Antonio Calderara: Rites of Passage. From Figuration to Concrete Art” will open to the public, in collaboration with the Antonio and Carmela Calderara Foundation and Larkin Erdmann Gallery AG, curated by the archive managers of the Antonio and Carmela Calderara Foundation, Paola Bacuzzi and Eraldo Misserini, and the art critic Marco Meneguzzo. The exhibition brings together 49 works that testify to the artist's transition from figurative to concrete art. The temporary exhibition makes visible a coherent evolution in which the representation of reality progressively transforms into a more essential vision, guided by a deliberate use of light as a constructive and spiritual principle.
Antonio Calderara (1903-1978) was a self-taught Italian artist, known for his evolution from figurative art to geometric abstraction. In 1954, influenced by his encounter with Mondrian's art and the loss of his daughter, he began a period of paintings on the edge of figuration. In 1960, he definitively abandoned curved lines to focus on rectangles, squares, and lines, with the idea of representing human measure in the space of light. His work stands out for his relentless exploration of light and color, seeking to capture their essence through simple and harmonious forms.
During the exhibition, two moments of meeting and storytelling will be organized with art critics Marco Meneguzzo (November 14, 2025, at 6:30 PM) and Elena Pontiggia (February 27, 2026, at 6:30 PM).
