After the success of the exhibitions on two great pioneers of photography such as Eve Arnold and Dorothea Lange, CAMERA - Italian Center for Photography in Turin presents its summer exhibition program, which includes a new exhibition dedicated to another central figure of 20th-century photography, the American Margaret Bourke-White.
From June 14 to October 6, 2024, the spaces of the Center will host Margaret Bourke-White. The work 1930-1960, an exhibition curated by Monica Poggi that through 150 photographs tells the work, the extraordinary life, and the high quality of Bourke-White's shots, capable of narrating the complex human experience on the pages of widely circulated magazines like LIFE - of which the exhibition presents a rich selection - overcoming gender barriers and boundaries with determination.
The transformations of the world are at the heart of the enthusiastic and relentless research of the photographer born in New York in 1904, who studied biology at Columbia University and attended for a few weeks the photography course taught by the famous pictorialist photographer Clarence H. White.
Moving to Cornell University, Bourke-White began selling her photographs on campus to support herself during her studies; in 1926 she settled in Cleveland and opened a small photography studio: during the day she immortalized architectures and gardens, earning enough to buy equipment and materials that she used at night to portray the city's large steelworks.
