The bibliographic exhibition, set up in the Book Path of MUSLI, offers a review in search of echoes, presences, and influences of surrealism in children's publishing starting from the reception in Italy of Lewis Carroll's works, focusing in particular on the Forties and Fifties of the Twentieth Century. In those years, in fact, after the censorship of fascism, almost as if to give voice to a deep and pre-existing need for freedom, the connections between the world of art and children's books intensify, with a convergence of different genres: the fairy-tale, dreamlike dimension, and the nonsense, territories in which, going back to childhood, primal impulses can emerge.
A specific section of the exhibition is dedicated to the link between animated books and surrealist imagery: from books of metamorphic transformation to the combinatorial play of words and images.
