From February 12, 2026, the spaces of CAMERA - Italian Center for Photography in Turin will host Edward Weston. The matter of forms, the major exhibition organized by Fundación MAPFRE in collaboration with CAMERA, which, after stops in Madrid and Barcelona, lands in Italy for the first time.

With a selection of 171 images, the exhibition - curated by Sérgio Mah - is conceived as a broad anthology that traces all the phases of Edward Weston's production (Illinois, 1886 - California, 1958), offering a European perspective on the legacy of one of the leading figures of North American modern photography. A corpus that serves as an aesthetic and conceptual counterpoint to the modernism of the early European photographic avant-gardes.

The exhibition covers over forty years of activity (from 1903 to 1948) of the great American photographer, from the early attempts marked by pictorialism to the full affirmation as a central figure of straight photography. The project highlights Weston's role - co-founder of Group f/64 and the Camera Pictorialists of Los Angeles - in recognizing and consolidating photography as a poetic and intellectual language, as well as an interpretive key to the aesthetics and lifestyle of America between the two wars.

A pioneer of a strictly modern vision, Weston chose the large format camera as his privileged tool, creating black and white images of extraordinary sharpness and richness in detail. His technical rigor, combined with a deep connection to nature, light, and form, has generated a corpus that includes still lifes, nudes, landscapes, and portraits now considered iconic. Rooted in the American landscape and culture, Weston's essential and unmistakable work offers a unique perspective on the affirmation process of photography and the central role it has assumed in contemporary visual culture.
