From 13 December to 16 March 2025
From December 2024 to March 2025, the exhibition rooms of Villa Pisani in Stra (VE) will host for the first time a retrospective of the photographer from Perugia, Giorgio Cutini.
The exhibition aims to be first and foremost a moment of reflection for the author, who was one of the signatories of the Manifesto "Passaggio di frontiera" along with, among others, Enzo Carli, Gianni Berengo Gardin, Mario Giacomelli. A supporter of a disruptive photography, in contrast to photojournalism and neorealist proposals, Cutini violates every aesthetic and technical-operational constraint to open up the photographic medium to surprising expressive and foundational possibilities. His is a search for new possibilities of vision, far beyond that imitation photography of reality that the artist tends to see as an exhibition of the absence of things.
Conceived as a path of absolutely personal artistic and human introspection, Cutini. Canto delle stagioni is also a universal journey of the gaze through the ages of man.
The first section, Inquietudine, tells of the state of excitement, wonder, and discomfort typical of a moment of discovery of life and reality. The excess of nature and things subjugates the artist and at the same time eludes his attempt at control. The conditions arise for the discovery of expressive possibilities beyond the certainties of technique and the duplication of reality.
Solitudine is the theme of the second section. Maturity demands a moment of pause, a face-to-face with what lies beyond. And only in solitude, in the option of a personal and individual relationship, is all this possible. The series Egl’io, in which Cutini addresses the archetype of the tree and at the same time questions himself, leads the viewer into a new situation, preparing for Silenzio, the dominant theme of the third exhibition section.
Here the artist rediscovers the source of his photography and tends with ever greater determination towards absolute black and white. The image of the father lost at a very young age is an opportunity for reflection on the irreducible absence that photography lives on. The vertigo of silence is then investigated by Cutini in the superhuman spaces of an Apennine that has become a metaphor for a state of the soul, willing to confront a potentially definitive silence.
