The Kelham Island Museum is located in one of the oldest industrial districts in the city of Sheffield. The museum stands on an artificial island over 900 years old and opened in 1982 to house objects, images and archival material dealing with Sheffield's industrial history.
The galleries in fact tell the history and traditions of those places: from light crafts to craftsmanship, to mass production and what it was like to live and work in Sheffield during the industrial revolution. In the museum you can follow the growth of the city of steel during the Victorian era and the two world wars to better observe and learn more about how the production of steel has shaped both the city today and the world.
