Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet is a museum site as well as a unique historical reconstruction. Built thanks to a huge public investment, it opened in 2016. At the Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet the visitor can see with his eyes what life was like at home and at work in the context of a steel mill dating back to the eighteenth century. Originally, Abbeydale was a manufacturer of agricultural tools and the largest water-powered industrial site on the River Sheaf. Now those same buildings have been classified as first and second degree historic. You can see the manager's house and the workers' house, water wheels, workshops, rocking hammers, an abrasive hull, a steam engine and the last surviving steel crucible furnace in the whole of the UK
