Historical Joan of Arc

The historial Jeanne d'Arc is a Rouen museum dedicated to Joan of Arc. Opened in 2015, it is located in the building of the Archbishop of Rouen. The museum is marked by the memory of the French heroine, of the Piazza del Vieux-marché, where her execution took place, and of the archbishop's palace - seat of the museum itself - where a posthumous trial restored her innocence. The museum represents the epic of Joan of Arc on about 1000 square meters, through a modern scenography, thanks also to the help of numerous multimedia devices (3D mapping, projections, luminous, dynamic and audiovisual graphic panels). The Roman and Gothic crypts of the archbishop's palace and its 15th century tower ideally evoke the late medieval / Renaissance cultural identity of the Joan of Arc story. It is here that the sentence took place in 1431 and where her rehabilitation process took place in 1456. The historial Jeanne d'Arc has a double ambition: to rediscover the epic and the destiny of the heroine and also highlight his myth built over the centuries and show how men have integrated, memorized, interpreted and sometimes even exploited this universal character.
