The Musée des antiquités is a Rouen museum dedicated to the archaeological finds of Rouen and the surrounding area. The museum was founded in 1831 to create a "Cabinet of Antiquities", to safeguard the fragments of monuments and artistic and archaeological objects, coming in particular from the excavations of the ancient theater of Lillebonne. The museum is housed in the former convent of the Visitation Sainte Marie, a 17th century convent which also houses the Natural History Museum of Rouen. The museum's collection houses exceptional artifacts, from Antiquity to the Renaissance. These are finds that testify both the regional production (such as glassworks, ceramics, sculptures), and the more distant cultures (such as Greece and the ancient Egyptians). The museum allows visitors to immerse themselves in the heart of ancient civilizations, discovering their daily life and aesthetics. The collection consists of statuettes, jewels, everyday objects, pieces of furniture that make up a quality heritage that traces an important moment in the history of humanity.
