The show

From 29 March to 30 June 2024, the National Galleries of Ancient Art and the Borghese Gallery will implement an unprecedented collaboration to allow the public to continue to enjoy the heritage preserved on the first floor of the Borghese Gallery even during the ambitious renovation and protection project made possible thanks to PNRR funds . Fifty works will in fact be transferred to the South Wing of the main floor of Palazzo Barberini.

This initiative is a unique and unmissable opportunity to bring together two collections that share a similar history, linked to two crucial figures of seventeenth-century Roman political and cultural life, Maffeo Barberini and Scipione Borghese , in an ideal historical and cultural proximity, and last but not least, also geographical.

Absolute masterpieces, such as the Portrait of a Man by Antonello da Messina , the Madonna and Child by Giovanni Bellini , the Madonna with Child, Saint John and Angels by Sandro Botticelli , the Portrait of a Young Woman with a Unicorn by Raphael , Susanna and the Elders by Peter Paul Rubens , Titian 's Sacred Love, Profane Love , Paolo Veronese 's Sermon of the Baptist , just to name a few, will thus continue to be accessible to the general public .

At Palazzo Barberini, the temporary dismantling of the rooms in the South Wing will be an opportunity for an in-depth photographic campaign and preventive conservation of the works normally exhibited in these environments : from the seventeenth-century Neapolitan to the eighteenth-century collection, from Mattia Preti to the painters of the Grand Tour.

Discounts on tickets are available throughout the exhibition period. The Galleria Borghese ticket is reduced and costs 11 euros (except for mandatory booking fees, free tickets and legal reductions). Those who have purchased this ticket are entitled to visit the National Galleries of Ancient Art at a very discounted cost (5 euros ), while enjoying all the extraordinary heritage and ongoing initiatives.
