ongoing Artsupp card Renaissance in black and white

The show

From 2 March to 23 June 2024, the Civic Museums of Bassano del Grappa present Renaissance in black and white. The art of engraving in Venice (1494-1615) , an exceptional exhibition dedicated to the "very happy black lines" of Venetian engraving and to the authentic revolution that was the birth and diffusion of printing , an epochal phenomenon that affected the Europe and transformed Venice into an essential crossroads of artistic experiences, generating some of the most fascinating creations of the entire Renaissance.

Curated by Giovanni Maria Fara and David Landau , among the major scholars of the art of engraving, and by an authoritative scientific committee, the exhibition offers 90 graphic masterpieces created by the major artists of the Renaissance including Andrea Mantegna, Albrecht Dürer, Jacopo de' Barbarians, Titian, Tintoretto, Veronese, Cornelis Cort, Agostino Carracci, Giuseppe Scolari .

The exhibition will lead visitors into the monochromatic universe of print through a scenographic and immersive installation created by theater director Andrea Bernard, awarded the European Opera Director Prize in 2015. The exhibition will also be accompanied by an important scientific publication, in Italian and in English, with contributions from respected international scholars to offer an important update to sector studies.

An evocative exhibition that traces an unrepeatable season of the Venetian Renaissance and celebrates a refined and surprising art that was able to dialogue with the achievements of painting and even influence it, almost as if one was the mirror of the other.
