On the occasion of the European Heritage Days 2024 with the theme Heritage on the move, the Casa MuseoBoncompagni Ludovisi, directed by Matilde Amaturo and affiliated with the Pantheon Institute andCastel Sant'Angelo - National Museums Directorate of the city of Romeopens to the public the exhibition "The Duchess of Valmont at the Boncompagni Ludovisi villa," curated by Matilde Amaturo and Valentina Filamingo. The exhibition presents to the public a recent donation of fashion and costume by the artist and painter Antonia Di Giulio. It is an eighteenth-century dress by costume designer Gabriele Mayer for the film "Valmont," with which Antonia Di Giulio began an artistic journey in the nineties withMario Schifano. Thanks to photography, Di Giulio is immortalized by the Italian pop art artist in her studio/home on Via delle Mantellate in Rome while wearing the dress that earned her the title of "duchess of Valmont of painting" in the words of the critic Achille Bonito Oliva. The character of the Duchess was born in July 1991 and ended in autumn 2023 with a farewell event in the spaces of Capitolium Art, once Schifano's studio on Via delle Mantellate.
In spring 2024, the donation of the Duchess of Valmont's costume to the Casa Museo Boncompagni becomes an opportunity to propose to the public the return of the character and her "virtual" meeting with Princess Alice Blanceflor de Bildt at the Boncompagni Ludovisi villa that houses themuseum.
