From 25 February to 8 May 2022
An installation that physically breaks the boundary between inside and outside. A large curtain that comes out of the galleries of the Museum to arrange itself in the square, introducing a new and alternative way of using the outdoor space.
A Retrospective is a site-specific intervention consisting of a “soft” architecture that creates the illusion of a false perspective and allows you to perceive the space in a new way. The work is made up of several elements that tell almost 20 years of production by the Inside Outside studio, founded by Petra Blaisse in 1991 in Amsterdam. Two large semi-transparent curtains become an exhibition device that stages 70 projects. Inside the hall and in visual continuity with the outside, some models are exhibited. The installation is completed by a plot of lines on the ground that cross the space as directions of movement and are an explicit reference to the project of the Library of trees in Milan.
The projects illustrated in the large curtains tell the changing relationship between inside and outside, a central theme for Inside Outside, which is addressed from time to time through an interdisciplinary approach that spans different fields, combining material technology on the one hand and applied arts, landscape and interior design on the other. The work is part of the MAXXI architecture collection.
“A Retrospective” is a project produced by gta exhibitions, Department of Architecture, ETH Zurich; curators: Fredi Fischli and Niels Olsen.
