The project, supported by Strategia Fotografia 2024 and promoted by the Direzione Generale Creatività Contemporanea of the Ministry of Culture, presents the research developed by the artist on the museum's invisible heritage and proposes a reflection on the relationship between archaeology, archive, and photography as practices of selection, interpretation, and construction of memory, between document and invention. Di Noto focuses his gaze on spaces usually inaccessible to the public - the photographic archive, storage areas, and restoration laboratories - approaching them as places of stratification, where the past is not exhibited but preserved and prepared for future viewing. The project finds its core in the Photographic Archive, explored as an archaeological ground from which to extract and re-mediate images as artifacts. Prints, negatives, and plates thus reveal an intertwining of visual contents and signs of time, cancellations, wear, and manipulations. In the exhibition, a series of photographic works enter into dialogue with archaeological artifacts, constructing a visual path that reflects on the nature of the archive, documentation, and the ambiguity of seeing.
