Exhibition promoted by the Department of Culture of Rome Capital and the Special Company Palaexpo
Produced by Azienda Speciale Palaexpo and organized in collaboration with Maison Européenne de la Photographie of Paris.
The exhibition is the most important retrospective so far dedicated to the Ukrainian artist Boris Mikhailov (born 1938 in Kharkiv). Considered one of the most influential contemporary artists in Eastern Europe, for over fifty years he has been developing a body of experimental photographic work that explores social and political themes.
Boris Mikhailov's pioneering practice encompasses documentary photography, conceptual work, painting and performance. Since the 1960s, he has created an impressive documentation of the tumultuous changes that accompanied the collapse of the Soviet Union and the disastrous consequences of its dissolution.
Conceived in close collaboration with the artist, the exhibition brings together hundreds of images drawing from more than twenty of his most important series, up to his most recent works.
